What to Wear?
So, you’re preparing for the Kentucky Christian Writers’ Conference (KCWC.) Let’s say you have looked at the schedule of workshop topics and decided on the classes that best suit your needs.
You have checked the presenters, maybe gone to their websites.
even begun packing a few supplies you want to take.
Now, what to wear?
Remember, you’re going to the conference to further discern God’s direction, find encouragement and guidance, write more professionally, meet agents or editors, and learn the ends and outs of marketing.
No need for a business suit and tie for the men or a sleek suit and heels for the women. But if we’re working toward being professional, we wouldn’t want a T-shirt and jeans with holes, no matter how in style they may be.
Our theme this year is “Called Up: Major League Faith.” Just as a player is called up to the plate in baseball, we are called up to trust God with our writing. It takes some major league faith!
Our planning committee considered having ball shirts and caps for everyone, but, once again, this is a professional organization. We’ll just let the theme carry us through in thought, design, and decoration.
That said, we suggest business casual for “what to wear.” If you were going to meet an editor for the first time, what would you wear?
I would suggest comfortable shoes and, if you shiver in air-conditioning like I do, you may want to bring a long-sleeved blouse or jacket.
If you’re able to come for the Thursday night “Meet and Greet,” the dress is more casual. It’s an informal event for everyone to mingle and to get to know each other.
There you have it. Most importantly, be comfortable and come with an open heart, seeking all that the Lord has for you. He’s going to fill you up!
