Virginia Smith, the critique moderator for CWFI, will discuss various formats for critique groups, and will give examples of actual critiques - good, bad, and really insulting.
Ginny Smith, KCWC Faculty Member, Receives Prestigious Award
(THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS) Wendy Lawton of Books & Such Literary Agency is proud to announce that Utah author Virginia Smith was named Writer of the Year earlier this week during the closing night ceremony at Mount Hermon's 39th Annual Christian Writers Conference. The international group of more than 500 attendees and faculty included writers from forty-eight states and three foreign countries. Keynote speakers at this year's conference were international best-selling authors Debbie Macomber and Jerry B. Jenkins. The coveted Writer of the Year award is selected by the conference's 72 faculty and staff members. "I'm delighted that Mount Hermon honored Virginia with Writer of the Year,"says Wendy Lawton. "Not only has she been successful with her own writing--building a group of faithful readers--but she continues to teach workshops, give to other writers and spearhead a new energy for CAN, Christian Authors Network." In regard to being chosen for this honor, Smith says, "I'm still reeling. I am so honored to have my name added to the list of distinguished authors who have received this award in the past." Smith left her job as a corporate director in the summer of 2005 to become a full time writer and speaker. Since then she has received contracts for ten novels. She writes humorous inspirational novels, including her debut Just As I Am, a cozy mystery entitled Murder by Mushroom, and her latest releases, Sincerely Mayla and Stuck in the Middle, book 1 in the Sister-to-Sister Series.
### Note from KCWC: Ginny lives in KY, and she is teaching fiction workshops at KCWC this year. See the Brochure-Schedule page for details.
Correction on Fairfield Inn Room Dates: In the hotel information portion of the printed brochure, the dates for conference discount are shown as June 20 and 21. However, since most people will want rooms for June 19 and 20, the change has been made with the hotel. To get the conference rate for June 19 and/or 20, you must call the hotel directly at (270) 769-1440 and mention that you will be attending KY Christian Writers Conference. Make your reservation soon, as the number of discounted rooms is limited. Other hotels, as well as restaurant and attractions info, are listed on www.touretown.com. Past conferees: - Have you found new strength in your walk with God, your writing ministry, and/or some other part of your life because of an experience at KCWC?
- Have you been published as a result of someone you met, something you learned, or confidence gained from attending?
- Did you learn something or meet someone that in some way changed your life?
If you can answer "yes" to any of these questions, we would really like to hear about it. We want to compile a set of written testimonies to go with our history book. You may post your testimony as a comment on the blog or send directly to info@kychristianwriters.com.
